The Vibes platform was a complex ecosystem of applications that helped its customers with several aspects of creating mobile marketing campaigns and content, from composing SMS messages to building mobile wallet campaigns to crafting push messages. My role on the Vibes team was using graphic and UI design to help its customers make sense of all of the capabilities, and restrictions, around the mobile marketing space, as well as helping to implement those designs with the engineering team.
Most of the challenges from working on this application came from working within tight constraints due to heavy existing UI patterns and legacy CSS. As such, many of my projects had to strike a balance between challenging the status quo with more modern aesthetic approaches while respecting the rest of the existing ecosystem. I created cleaned-up typographic-heavy compositions while still maintaining the current brand, including colors and typography.
One of the projects that allowed our team to begin pushing the boundaries was the Dashboard, where I pressed color and pattern forward, and added Open Sans to give our team much more flexibility in type choices in the future.
Finally, after a large-scale rebrand of the overall company identity, I explored recreating the designs of several of the platform’s most heavily-utilized forms using the updated typefaces and brand choices to provide a path forward for a larger redesign for the future. These designs also integrated elements from the team’s burgeoning design system and weaved them into the overall page composition.
